Capcom, seems to be in a disarray since it has been a long time since we get to see a new original game. Now, here we are, with a remake of a legendary game of the 1987, Bionic Commando.

Plot

The story is about Nathan Spenser, a former bionic, now a prisoner on a death penalty. The situation however thinks otherwise. A terrorist group, Bioreign, consisted of human and bionic troops, has destroyed Ascertium city, killing all civilians. Their target; a small devise, hidden in the city, which yields enormous powers. The government has no choice but to send the best they have, and that is Spenser. Spenser will receive orders from his old friend Joe, who is overseeing this mission. Upon his mission objectives, Spenser will meet former allies, with whom however you don’t get the change to exchange blows and only get to see once or two throughout the whole game. The plot later on gets a little more complicated with a small twist that will surely catch you by surprise, yet, the whole thing does remind of Japanese anime, which is of some sorrow.
Where is my wife?

Gameplay

The game is a 3rd person shooter. Our hero has a bionic arm which can do some really cool stuff like ripping some big items of their location, tossing items on your enemies, grabbing opponents and it can also be used as a whip. Falling from heights will not result to death; unless you jump of the map. Also, falling in a special manner will result to a shockwave which either kills or stuns your enemies. The main usage of the arm however is to save you from falling to your death and by allowing you to move from building to building. Pretty much you can go as high as you can, until of course the radiation kills you.  The arm can grab to any surface and your character doesn’t die, thankfully, no matter how oddly you will throw him. Crossing maps like “Tarzan” is surely some fun! But the arm itself is not useful against other robots and groups of enemy troops. Thus, you have a small arsenal of weaponry: a pistol (pretty useful), a shotgun, a grenade launcher (ooooh yeah), a rocket launcher ( good only for robots),  a machinegun (neat no matter what), a sniper rifle and grenades (totally awesome). Although Spenser is a bionic, this doesn’t mean that he can carry all of them. Three weapons max from which the pistol and the grenades are not exchangeable. Finally, at some point, you will unlock the andenaline combo, which will allow you to do some pretty strong moves, like the whip attack.

Multiplayer

The game offers a multiplayer both online and locally, for up to 10 players. The gaming modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. The bionic arm is present of course and all in all in can do almost all the moves that can be done in the single player.

Graphics

Graphics are awesome. The sceneries are beautiful and the destroyed city, although weirdly flooded) is marvelous. The DirectX 11 really does a heck of a job! The characters, have great design and animation, really you can spot any major flaws. The levels too are nicely made, yet, there aren’t anything to be awed about. The, city’s park however is kinda weird for a park. This park is so big that it couldn’t be classified as a park, but as a forest instead!!! The robots have some kind crappy design, but typical for Japanese standards.

Soundtrack

Voice acting, effects and soundtracks are also maintained at a good level. Somewhat the gunshots sound a little bit weird. There is really not much to bother you at this title!

Conclusion, the game is good, and I does deserve a place in your collection. Although it is a remake and there isn’t any insanely awesome plot, yet it does worth the money.

Better make a staue of me too, or else...
